My recent work has to do with capturing missing moments. For my
most recent exhibit, I created a series of photographs that promised
either an event yet to occur, or documented something that already
happened. The photographs do not contain the climactic action, but
rather moments leading up to it, or an aftermath.
I was born in Libya and grew up moving between cities in Bangladesh. Amherst has been home for me for the last four years, and by the time I am finished with my MFA degree, it will be the city in which I have lived for the longest stretch of time.
UMass Amherst has helped me grow and find what I want to do with life.
I came to UMass Amherst as an electrical engineering student. With
the help of some very supportive professors I was able to finish
my bachelor’s degree in engineering while enrolling in numerous photography
classes. Susan Jahoda, a professor in the art department, has been
a great source of inspiration and support.
Most of my photographs involve people. And most of them are people
around me. I really like photographing people I know, because that
lets me capture the essence of them that I see.
