- Chancellor Holub and UMass Amherst Alumni Association President, Kathleen Mitchell.
At the close of each fiscal year, many reports are compiled that detail the UMass Amherst Alumni Association’s programs and services. The figures are always impressive, and this year is no different. More than 21,000 alumni and 1,500 students participated in Alumni Association events, from social gatherings and reunions, to career development programs, and athletic rallies and games. And once again a significant number of alumni—close to 500—volunteered their time and expertise in support of our initiatives. But if you are not counted in these figures, you might wonder how you’ve benefited from the Alumni Association.
Perhaps you are among the 20,000 that logged into the Alumni Online Community to search the directory for a friend; the 78,000 recipients of our electronic newsletter, @UMASS; or the 100,000 monthly visitors to our website, UMassAlumni.com. And of course, if you are a part of the more than 250,000 alumni, students, and friends that take pride in being a part of a strong UMass Amherst community, then the Alumni Association has benefited you. Through our work, we advance the reputation and image of the flagship campus. We welcome Chancellor Robert C. Holub and support his goal to move UMass Amherst to a higher level of achievement, making the university competitive with the top public colleges and universities in the country. Our programs therefore strive to enhance the student experience and keep alumni connected, informed, and enriched; adding value to a UMass Amherst degree.
As you continue to read through our Annual Report, you will learn more about the many ways the Alumni Association benefits you through programs, services, and a strong UMass Amherst community that spans the globe. We thank the thousands of alumni and students who are already involved, and encourage even more of you to become active participants. Nothing speaks more highly of a university than alumni who are engaged and connected through their Alumni Association.
