Lending your time and expertise as an alumni volunteer is a wonderful way to give back to your alma mater, connect with other alumni, and have a positive impact on the future of UMass Amherst. You may say, “I’m not really sure what to do or whom to contact to get involved.” You can start with the UMass Amherst Alumni Association, a resource to find volunteer activities that fit your interests and skills.
Hundreds of alumni already volunteer with the Alumni Association and they make a difference on many levels. Volunteers keep the UMass Amherst connection strong through Alumni Clubs that host social, athletic, and networking events across the country. Alumni Clubs also welcome newly enrolled students from their area to the UMass Amherst family, allowing them to feel part of a larger community before arriving on campus.
Recognizing success is a function of the Alumni Awards & Scholarship committees. Alumni volunteers work on these committees to select outstanding alumni, faculty, and students to be honored for scholarly achievements and distinguished service. Other Alumni Association committees focus on areas such as student programs, finance and investments, advocacy, public affairs, and membership.
Volunteers also help to further the professional development of their fellow graduates through the Alumni Career Services program. Accomplished alumni from a variety of fields share their knowledge and expertise in workshops and online podcasts that continue to add value to a UMass Amherst degree.
Nothing speaks more highly of a university than successful alumni who enthusiastically serve and support it. The Alumni Association provides many opportunities for you to get involved and to become part of a very special group of people. Contact the Alumni Association today or visit UMassAlumni.com to learn more about volunteer opportunities.
You were. You are. UMASS.
